Seven touchdown passes, seven different receivers
Malik Knight, Elijah Lagg, Cataurus Hicks, Ja’Kyrian Turner, Censere Lee, Bryce Yates, Damon Ferguson Jr. Mason Heintschel threw a touchdown to every one of them Saturday night against Miami (Ohio), and none of them caught a second.
Pittsburgh won 59-14 at home in the season opener for both sides. The sophomore went 31 of 41 for 453 yards and did not throw an interception. Two career bests in a single evening.
The last Panthers quarterback to throw seven in a game was Pete Gonzalez, against Rutgers, in 1997. That is a 29-year gap.

Settled before halftime
Pittsburgh led 21-0 after one quarter. Two Heintschel touchdown throws, then a 50-yard run from Justin Cook.
Miami answered briefly. David McComb, a freshman who transferred in from Kansas, found Damarion Witten for 75 yards to cut it to 28-14 with 4:34 on the clock before the break. It was his first college appearance, made necessary when Thomas Gotkowski was ruled out for the year with a non-contact leg injury late in camp.
Antonio Chadha closed the half with a 58-yard field goal at the buzzer. 31-14. The kick matched the program record set by Alex Kessman against Boston College in 2020 and equaled by Ben Sauls against California in 2024.
What the box score says
The third quarter finished it. Three more touchdown passes: Hicks from 53 yards, Lee from 35, Yates from 27.
Number seven, the one that tied the record, went 15 yards to Ferguson with 9:48 remaining. Holden Geriner mopped up, three attempts, three completions, 27 yards.
The RedHawks ran for 28 yards all night and picked up 14 first downs. Pittsburgh had 33.
