A win built on the boot
Clemson beat Georgia Southern 22-7 on Saturday night after a two-hour delay because of thunder and lightning. Of the Tigers’ 22 points, 15 came off the foot of Nolan Hauser.
The kicker nailed five field goals from 20, 34, 38, 50 and 49 yards. The last two, both in the fourth quarter, took the game out of reach.
The other number that told the story? 22 yards. That is all Clemson’s defense gave up on the ground all night.

Vizzina goes out, freshman steps in
Christopher Vizzina threw a touchdown and an interception in the first quarter alone before leaving the game, apparently with an arm issue. His 10-yard score to T.J. Moore came after a botched punt by Antavious Murphy, with Jackson Reach recovering at the Georgia Southern 27.
Tait Reynolds, a true freshman, took over from there. He completed 16 of 27 passes for 178 yards, but also lost a fumble at the Georgia Southern seven. The young quarterback also hit Moore for 45 yards, setting up Hauser’s second field goal.
Moore finished with seven catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, comfortably Clemson’s top target. The Tigers are now 1-1 after being blown away 51-10 by No. 11 LSU last week.
Georgia Southern had the ball, not the payoff
The Eagles had hung around to the break. Max Johnson found Ashton Hollins for a 42-yard gain to cut the gap to six before Hauser closed the half with a 38-yard kick at the buzzer. 16-7.
The second half was a punt fest: four apiece over the first four possessions. Tripp Bryant missed a 53-yard field goal with 9:45 left, and Clemson made them pay straight away.
Johnson finished with 244 yards and a touchdown. Georgia Southern, also 1-1, was outgained 347-266 and denied one last shot when it failed on fourth down from the three.
