Josep Maria Orobitg spoke to Spanish daily AS a few hours ago and left no room for doubt. “Pep will not coach any club, or any national team, this season,” Guardiola’s agent said. That settles it. No touchline for Pep until next summer at the earliest.
The statement lands with several jobs already doing the rounds. Trabzonspor, hunting for a new coach, had seen Guardiola’s name pushed around in the press over the past few days. National teams had been mentioned too, ever since he walked away from Manchester City. All of that chatter can go quiet now.
Guardiola is 55. He left City after a decade on the touchline, a stretch of loyalty almost unheard of at this level. The Spaniard wants a break. Enzo Maresca took over the job this summer.

Six league titles in England alone
His CV explains why clubs have been circling. Guardiola won six Premier League titles with City between 2018 and 2024. He also delivered the treble of league, cup and Champions League in 2023, something no English club had managed since Manchester United in 1999.
Before England, he made his name at Barcelona between 2008 and 2012, winning two Champions Leagues. Then came Bayern Munich, from 2013 to 2016, and three straight Bundesliga titles.
Three leagues, three spells of domination. Very few managers can point to a record like that, which is exactly why a season on the sidelines gets people talking.
A break, not a farewell
The announcement only covers the current season. Nothing in it suggests Guardiola is calling time on his career for good. His agent is talking about rest, not retirement.
Clubs in trouble who fancied tempting him mid-season now know where they stand. The question comes back next summer. Until then, the talk of a return to Barca or a national team job stays talk.
