Clark hopes for a warmer welcome at Medinah
Wyndham Clark is in action this week at the Presidents Cup in Medinah. The American is hoping for a friendlier crowd than the one he got last June. When he won the US Open at Shinnecock Hills, plenty in the gallery openly backed his rivals. It left a mark.
“The media made me the villain,” Clark said. He admits backing from the crowd would mean a lot to him. “It would be nice if people were on my side,” he added, pointing to a public image he feels is unfair.

A warm reception from Chicago fans
Since arriving at Medinah, Clark says he has been well treated by the local crowd. He also moved to defend the mood inside the United States locker room, describing the group as tight-knit despite some reports suggesting otherwise.
Asked about his team-mates, Clark picked Justin Thomas as the most fired-up player in the squad. He also jokingly described Patrick Cantlay as the player with the “least emotion” on the team. A reminder that personalities differ, but the unity, in Clark’s view, is still intact.
A different backdrop for Team USA
Public opinion of some American players has been a sensitive topic through recent team events. For Clark, this week at Medinah is mainly a chance to move on after a tricky summer in the spotlight, with the crowd seemingly on his side this time.
