A first for TGL
TGL has its first trade, and it involves a major champion. Shane Lowry has left The Bay Golf Club for Boston Common Golf in a deal completed Monday. Boston sent its fourth selection to The Bay, which used it to fill an open roster spot for this season. The Bay also gets a future selection spread across the next three offseasons, plus “commercial considerations” the league did not detail.
The move reunites Lowry with his close friend Rory McIlroy. Boston’s roster last season also included Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, so the Irishman walks into a locker room already stacked with major winners.

The man behind the move
Lowry is 39 and won The Open Championship in 2019. His most recent victory came at the Irish Open last month on the DP World Tour, so he arrives in Boston with fresh momentum rather than a question mark. “I’m delighted to be joining Boston Common Golf,” he said, adding that playing alongside McIlroy makes the move especially exciting.
Bradley, who plays for the club, called Lowry a fierce competitor with a tremendous all-around game and said his energy fits the group. Eric Kwait, The Bay’s team president, said Lowry helped build the club from the start and called him “a major champion, and one of the most genuine and beloved players in professional golf.”
What it changes for both clubs
The Bay is left with Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg and Min Woo Lee. The league is also expanding to five-player rosters for the 2027 season, which gives the new selection extra weight. Boston Common opens its season on Jan. 2 against Los Angeles Golf Club, and Bradley’s comments indicate the team will return to the SoFi Center.
