USA take a 3-2 cushion into foursomes
The United States survived a stiff Thursday test to open the 2026 Presidents Cup with a 3-2 lead over the Internationals at Medinah Country Club, and Friday hands captain Brandt Snedeker a chance to press that advantage in foursomes. Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns, who won the first point of the week, go out again in the lead match at 1:05 p.m. ET against Corey Conners and Nick Taylor.
Four more pairings follow in ten-minute intervals: Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman against Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark against Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee, Justin Thomas and Cameron Young against Adam Scott and Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele closing out the session against Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim. Golf Channel carries the session from 2 to 7 p.m. ET.

A rematch at the top, and a format that cuts both ways
Sending Scheffler and Burns back out first is no accident. The pair set the tone on Thursday, and Snedeker wants that carried into the alternate-shot format, where chemistry tends to matter more than raw ball-striking. Further down the order, Cantlay and Schauffele bring a lopsided history with them: a 4-1 record together in foursomes, against just 1-3 in fourball. Facing the in-form Kim brothers will test whether that format split holds up at Medinah.
The Internationals, for their part, are trying to end a run of American dominance in this event, and every foursomes point matters more than usual given how tight fourball sessions have been across recent Cups. Losing the opening session cost them Thursday; a repeat on Friday would push the U.S. toward a lead that is very hard to survive by Sunday singles.
What is at stake this weekend
Medinah’s length continues to reward the bombers on the American side, and a lopsided session on Friday would all but decide the week before Saturday’s fourballs are even played. A split session, on the other hand, keeps the Internationals inside striking distance heading into the weekend and sets up a tighter finish at a venue that has hosted marquee team golf before.
