Matching 63s at Canyon Meadows
Richard Green and Rob Labritz each shot 7-under 63 on Friday and share the first-round lead at the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta.
Labritz got there first. He rolled in six birdies through 17 holes at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club, added a seventh on the last and signed a bogey-free card. For most of the afternoon that number stood alone.
Green wiped out the gap on the closing hole. The Australian made five birdies through his round, then holed out for eagle at 18 to draw level.

Two 55-year-olds chasing different things
Green returns to Calgary as defending champion. That victory remains the only PGA Tour Champions title of his career, and five top-10 finishes this season have not produced a second one.
Labritz is working further back. He lost his full status two years ago, has played a lighter schedule this season and has yet to finish better than a tie for 16th.
“I lost my full status two years ago, so I’ve been grinding back the last few years,” Labritz said. “We started out with a nice round today, 63, I feel good, body feels good, I’m ready to go one shot at a time and just see where it ends. But, started out the way I wanted to.”
Seven players within two shots
Miguel Angel Jimenez sits third alone at 6 under. The Spaniard opened with four birdies on the front nine, then traded three more birdies for a bogey coming home.
Michael Allen, Jason Caron, Ryan Armour, Jerry Kelly, Michael Block and Thongchai Jaidee all posted 5 under and share fourth. Mike Weir leads the Canadian contingent at 3 under in a tie for 17th, which matters at the only Champions Tour event staged in Canada each year.
Two rounds remain, and nobody has separated yet.
