A rookie kicker settles an argument
The New York Giants closed the preseason with a 23-6 win over the Jets on Friday night at MetLife Stadium, and the man who did the most damage never touched a defender. Rookie kicker Dominic Zvada converted from 23, 53 and 46 yards and added both extra points.
The Jets struck first. Chip Trayanum punched in a one-yard touchdown run to cap a 10-play, 36-yard drive built entirely on the ground, then Jason Sanders pushed the extra point wide. Six points, and that was the entire Jets night.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. answered late in the first quarter with a six-yard touchdown, finishing a four-play, 48-yard drive he had opened with a 16-yard run. Odell Beckham Jr. moved the chains with a 23-yard catch on the same possession.

Zvada takes over
New York wasted a chance to extend the lead before the break when Braxton Berrios dropped a pass at the goal line and a fade route fell incomplete. Zvada cleaned it up from 23 yards. He came back with a 53-yarder midway through the third to finish a 13-play march, then opened the fourth quarter with a 46-yarder.
Sanders, who spent part of the offseason with the Giants, tried to match him from 54 yards with under eight minutes left and came up well short. Jake Haener closed the scoring with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Gipson on a four-play, 61-yard drive.
Jameis Winston started and went 4-of-9 for 54 yards with an interception on the opening series, a tipped ball that bounced off Beckham Jr. after he slipped at the top of his route. Brandon Allen followed with 8-of-12 for 78 yards. New York ran 32 times for 142 yards, with Najee Harris taking 11 carries for 39 and Eric Gray adding nine for 30.
Two days to cut the roster
Tracy left in the second quarter with a head and neck injury and stayed down through a commercial break before walking off. He passed a concussion evaluation and returned to the sideline. Cornerback Art Green was taken into the medical tent after a fourth-quarter kickoff.
Linebacker Zaire Barnes, in a direct roster fight with Darius Muasau, produced a leaping interception on a Cade Klubnik pass. All 32 clubs must reach 53 players by 6 p.m. ET on Sunday.
