Bruno raises a flag, Fury’s team shuts it down
A month out from the biggest all-British heavyweight fight in years, a rumour needed putting out. Frank Bruno said on the Fight Your Corner podcast that someone in a gym had told him Tyson Fury has an injury, one that “may stop him from going into the fight with Anthony Joshua.”
Fury’s camp answered quickly. They denied the claim to Sky Sports News, and the bout remains on for December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with the WBA (Super) heavyweight title at stake. Bruno’s comment was second-hand and unverified, and nothing else has surfaced to back it up.
no renewal
Free for 2 weeks.
A late-night ring walk and a long contract
The timing of this one is unusual. The fight is due to begin around 1am on Saturday December 12, and the stadium will stay open until 3.30am.
Fury, 38, also spoke last week about his future, and he does not sound like a man planning an exit. Speaking to WSVN Miami from camp, he said he has two fights left on his current contract and may sign another deal after that. “I’ll finish the contract off and then probably sign another 10-fight deal. Who knows?” he said. His one condition is speed. “If the money’s right sign another 10 fights, but they’ve got to be quick because I’m getting older.” He pointed out he is “coming up to fight No 40.”
Joshua and Fury have circled each other for years, so a withdrawal would hurt. For now the only official word is from Fury’s side, and it is a flat denial.
