Five million euros for a year, and what that price says
Davide Frattesi is a Lazio player. Inter made it official on Saturday, and it is a loan rather than a sale, with the Rome club paying five million euros for the privilege.
The number is the story. Inter spent far more to take him from Sassuolo in 2023, when half of Serie A was watching the midfielder after a breakout season. Three years later, Milan have let him walk for a fee that barely covers a slice of his annual wages.

Frattesi belongs to that rare group of midfielders who live inside the opposition box. Blindside runs, late bursts, arriving half a second before the centre-back turns his head. It is a profile that punishes deep blocks and has decided plenty of tight games from the bench.
That is also the trap. Every summer in Milan the same question came back: how many minutes was he actually going to get? This time the answer arrived in the bluntest form available.
What Lazio are actually buying
There is no gamble here for Lazio. They get an Italy international who knows Serie A and European nights, at a moment when their midfield has been short of anyone willing to run beyond the striker.
Paying for a loan tells you the rest. Nobody spends five million euros to warm a bench. The interesting part is what comes after: a paid loan commits neither club to anything, and Frattesi has twelve months to turn this into something permanent.
