Eight draws in ten meetings
Minnesota United and Real Salt Lake have now finished level eight times in their last 10 matches against each other. Saturday in Sandy, Utah, made it eight, and it arrived the way these fixtures keep arriving, with a goal in the closing minutes.
Joaquin Pereyra scored it in the 89th, seven minutes after Sergi Solans had put Salt Lake in front. The 1-1 finish leaves RSL on 28 points from an 8-6-4 record and Minnesota on 25 from 6-6-7.
The Loons had already done this to Salt Lake once this season. On May 23, Mauricio Gonzalez equalised three minutes into second-half stoppage time for another 1-1.

Solans found the net and then found the post
Solans scored in the 82nd minute for his eighth of the season, a team high. That goal sat between two chances he should have taken. The first, in the 66th minute, was mishit and drifted wide left. The second, in the 86th, came off the right post from point-blank range. Diego Luna headed the pass that created the goal itself.
The first half offered almost nothing. Play stayed in the middle third. RSL held 64 percent of possession and managed three shots, two of them on target. Minnesota took eight and put none on frame.
Drake Callender kept his side alive with six saves. His best came in the 59th minute, when Luna slipped a through ball to Stijn Spierings in the middle of the box and Callender bolted off his line to smother the flick. Rafael Cabral answered soon after, sliding out to deny Mamadou Dieng after two blocked shots from a free kick left the ball loose on the right of the box.
Pereyra’s week
The equaliser began with Marcus Caldeira running under a long ball and heading it into Pereyra’s path. Cabral came a long way off his line, and the Argentine looped the finish over him into an empty net.
That was Pereyra’s second MLS goal of the season and his third goal in a week. He scored twice late in Minnesota’s 3-1 Leagues Cup win over Atlante on Tuesday.
