Lyon locks in its defensive priority
Olympique Lyonnais has landed its defender. Felix Bacher signed for the club on Sunday. The Austrian arrives from Estoril and has put pen to paper on a deal running until June 2031.
The fee is understood to be 5.1 million euros, including bonuses. Estoril also keep 12.5% of any future sale. This one had been dragging on for a few days. It is now done and dusted.

A much-needed addition in the middle
Bacher is 25 and operates at the heart of the defence. Lyon have been looking to toughen up the back line since the window opened. Mission accomplished. Last season’s fourth-place finishers in France have added more steel at the back.
The Rhone club are sticking with a formula that has paid off before. Last year, they signed Ruben Kluivert from Portugal. This time, they have gone back there for Bacher. The Portuguese league remains a happy hunting ground for OL.

Lyon want to get back among the front-runners and return to Europe. Shoring up the defence was the first step. Bacher will be expected to hit the ground running when the season resumes. It’s now up to him to seize his chance in a crowded position group.
