Atlanta’s best corner goes down
Another blow. The Falcons placed A.J. Terrell Jr. on injured reserve a few hours ago, and the groin injury he picked up against Carolina will keep him out for at least four games.
Terrell barely got going on Sunday. He came off in the first quarter of the 34-3 home loss to the Panthers, was checked for a concussion and cleared, then ruled out for the rest of the afternoon with the groin problem. Atlanta are 0-2. Now they head to Lambeau Field on a short week without the player their own defensive coordinator rates above everyone else at the position.
“Best boundary corner in NFL,” Jeff Ulbrich called him on Tuesday. Big words. He followed them with a vote of confidence in the replacement.

Henderson gets the job, for now
C.J. Henderson finished Sunday’s game opposite Mike Hughes and looks set to keep that spot. Ulbrich said he “doesn’t feel any angst” about leaning on him and praised what Henderson has brought as depth in the secondary. There is a second option. Avieon Terrell, A.J.’s younger brother, has been rotating in at nickel and can slide outside if the staff want to reshuffle.
To fill the roster spot, Atlanta promoted defensive lineman Zach Harrison to the active roster. He had been on the practice squad since clearing waivers after the August cuts. The practice squad changed too: center James Brockermeyer was released and offensive tackle Colby Sorsdal, a 2023 fifth-round pick of the Detroit Lions, took his place.
Better news at quarterback
Not everything went the wrong way. Tua Tagovailoa was a full participant in practice, his first time with that tag since he hurt his oblique in Week 1. He is still listed as the backup to Michael Penix Jr., who makes his return from last season’s knee injury on Thursday night in Green Bay.
Right tackle Jawaan Taylor, who left Sunday’s game with a rib injury, was also a full participant. That matters with Penix back behind the line. Brian Robinson Jr. (ankle) and Brandon Dorlus (thumb) practiced fully as well. Samson Ebukam was the only player who sat out.
Kevin Stefanski’s team managed three points on Sunday. Lambeau on a Thursday night is a tough place to find answers.
