A goalkeeper heading for the exit
Emiliano Martinez has been offered to Chelsea by his representatives, according to The Athletic. The London club are now weighing up a move for the Argentina international.
The 33-year-old has no clear future at Aston Villa. His switch to Juventus collapsed earlier this month. Since then, the Villans have brought in Zion Suzuki to take over as first-choice keeper. Marco Bizot has started the Premier League season between the posts. Martinez has been pushed down the pecking order at a club where he was untouchable not so long ago.

Chelsea have a problem in goal
The schedule may hand the Blues a chance. Robert Sanchez started the opening game against Fulham and was at fault for both goals in the 3-2 defeat. Mike Penders, back after a season on loan at Strasbourg, stayed on the bench.
So the position is already under the microscope at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have built their squad around young players in recent seasons. Signing a 33-year-old goalkeeper would go against that approach, but it would solve an immediate headache.
A deal that could run until deadline day
Foot Mercato notes that Martinez remains a proven top-level keeper. He was excellent again for Aston Villa last season. His World Cup run with Argentina put him in the conversation with the very best.
Nothing is set in stone yet. Chelsea are looking at the option, Aston Villa have not put a public price on him, and the player has not spoken out. The transfer window shuts in a few days. This is the kind of deal that gets done in 48 hours or not at all.
