Two-out hit seals it
The Dodgers were back home tonight, and they left with a win. Los Angeles beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 in 10 innings.
The deciding blow came from Tommy Edman. Two outs, a rough 0-2 count against left-hander Gregory Soto, and a hit driven to right field to bring home Enrique Hernandez from third base. Soto takes his fourth loss of the season.
That makes it four straight wins for the Dodgers. It follows a 7-13 stretch, their worst run of the season, which came right after their previous four-game winning streak. The record tells the story of a reigning champion that has spent the summer trying to find some consistency.

Yamamoto holds the line, Muncy comes up big
Yoshinobu Yamamoto worked six and one-third innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out nine. It was his second straight outing with nine strikeouts.
Max Muncy answered Pittsburgh’s opening run with a two-run homer in the first, his 26th of the season and his third in his last five games. Mookie Betts then drove in two runs with the bases loaded in the third to make it 4-2.
Los Angeles also lost Andy Pages along the way. The All-Star center fielder exited in the fifth inning, two innings after being hit on the back of his left hand by a pitch from Bubba Chandler.
Pittsburgh makes a poor start to the trip
The Pirates had struck first, though. Brandon Lowe singled, Bryan Reynolds was hit by a pitch, and then Nick Gonzales singled to make it 1-0. Gonzales did it again in the third to level things at 2-2.
Oneil Cruz pulled the Pirates level in the eighth with a two-run homer off Kyle Hurt. Chandler, meanwhile, gave up four runs in four innings.
The loss opens a nine-game road trip for Pittsburgh, with stops in San Diego and St. Louis before heading home. Starting a trip like that by letting one slip away in extra innings is hardly the ideal way to begin.
