The clinch that wasn’t
The plastic sheeting could have gone up in the visitors’ clubhouse Wednesday night. It stayed in the box.
Los Angeles (92-60) lost 6-2 to the Reds (71-81) in Cincinnati. Two hours later San Diego (83-69) put nine on Colorado, and the NL West stayed officially open for one more day.
Not that anyone in the Dodgers clubhouse is nervous. One win this afternoon in the series finale finishes it, and hands the franchise a 13th division title in 14 years while the defending champions keep rolling.

Snell walked off after 19 pitches
The real story of the night was the left-hander leaving early.
Blake Snell came off after one inning, tightness in his left groin, 19 pitches on the counter. He stayed in the dugout getting treatment while his teammates kept stranding runners against Cincinnati.
Snell did not spin it. “I have pulled it four different times, so I know if I kept pitching, I would have pulled it for sure. For me, stopping is a first. Maybe Im growing up.”
Teoscar Hernandez went 0-for-4 with a strikeout to close it out, which ended his 23-game streak of reaching base against the Reds.
Wrobleski against a pitcher who cannot find the plate
Justin Wrobleski (11-5, 3.78) makes his 22nd start. The two halves of his season barely look related: 10-2 with a 2.69 ERA before the All-Star break, good enough to get him selected, then forearm inflammation and a stretch of bouncing between the rotation and the bullpen.
Brady Singer (6-14, 5.38) goes the other way. Since August 20 the right-hander has a 9.00 ERA across five outings and 25 innings, with 25 runs and 14 walks in that span. His last time out against Milwaukee, he gave up eight in four.
There is one number in his favour, and it is a strange one. Singer is 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA in three career starts against Los Angeles.
Cincinnati has its own streak going. Elly De La Cruz homered and reached base for a 23rd consecutive game, the longest active run in the majors.
