Sixty-two minutes, then the walk to the bench
Federico Dimarco is a doubt for Inter Milan’s trip to the Santiago Bernabeu. Word came through early in the afternoon.
The Italian full-back had only been on for a few minutes when he was thrown into Saturday’s mess against Napoli. Inter were 2-0 down and the left side was going nowhere. He limped out in the 62nd minute. Italian outlets put it down to a slight sprain in his left knee.
What makes it sting is that his arrival is what turned the night around. Inter chased the game for an hour and won it 3-2.

Chivu is not calling it before Monday
Cristian Chivu is waiting. The medical staff want to see how the joint responds overnight before anyone signs off on Tuesday. Internally, the Italy international is already being treated as highly unlikely.
Losing him now is a headache no coach wants a week into September. Dimarco is the main outlet on that flank, and without him Chivu has to rebuild the whole left-hand balance against a Madrid side that lives in those channels.
An opener nobody drew by accident
Tuesday, 21:00, the Bernabeu. The two clubs open their European campaigns with the tie of the first matchday.
Their form arrives from opposite directions. Inter are still riding the Napoli comeback. Real Madrid lost 1-0 at Real Betis on Friday, a first defeat of the Liga season that landed badly. Madrid have absentees of their own to sort through, and neither dressing room will have a settled team sheet until late.
