No press conference, no exclusive sit-down. Didier Deschamps has kept a low profile, until a League 3 match gave him away. The 57-year-old was spotted in Concarneau, where he presented a trophy on the sidelines of a game against Caen. Most of the time, he is back in Brittany at his second home, well away from the noise.
Since leaving the France dugout, the 1998 World Cup-winning captain has not shown any signs of urgency. That is unusual in a world where every empty seat sparks a wave of rumours and eager applicants.

Not before November, according to L’Equipe
According to the sports paper, Deschamps is unlikely to jump back in before November, or even until the end of the current season. The message to those around him is clear: he will not rush into any offer, no matter how big, if it does not fit his plan.
That stance is a sharp contrast to the man who followed him. Zinedine Zidane stepped straight in, taking charge of France as soon as Deschamps announced he was leaving. Fourteen years in charge, a world title in 2018, a penalty shootout defeat to Argentina in 2022, a Nations League triumph in 2021: Deschamps’ record remains the longest and one of the most decorated in the job, which began in July 2012.
Leaving on a sour note
Deschamps walked away after a 2026 World Cup that ended with a fourth-place finish, pointing the finger at a lack of backing from the federation. It was a bitter exit after more than a decade carrying the France shirt from the touchline.
The Breton by adoption would rather wait than rush. The question now is simple: which project, in a few months’ time, will tempt him out of his short break?
