Del Castillo signed for Brest in 2021. He leaves with 30 goals and 31 assists across 151 appearances, output that places him among the most productive attackers the club has had in the modern era. He was also part of the squad that took SB29 into the Champions League, the high point of the club’s history.
Things have shifted since. Brest have cut the average age of the squad and changed head coach. A million euros for a 30-year-old who no longer starts every week suits everybody involved.
Osasuna buy a player who can start on Saturday
The Navarre club rarely spends big and tends to hunt for players who need no bedding-in period. Del Castillo can play off either flank and knows how to hurt teams in the final third. That is the brief, filled.
Brest are left looking for a replacement, from inside the building or somewhere on the market, with only hours left before the window shuts.
