Four words, and the window shifts
“We are going to make a move.” That was Deco, talking to Sport after the Joan Gamper Trophy, a 2-1 win over Al-Ahly that told nobody very much. He named no one. He did not need to.
Barcelona have days left before the window shuts. One signing is still sitting in the drawer, and the club’s sporting director has now said so out loud, which is not how Barca usually handle the last week of August.

Ferran they can live without. Lewandowski is another matter
Deco drew a hard line between the two departures. “For Ferran, I think we can find solutions with the signings we have made. For Robert, it is much harder, it is very difficult to replace a player like him.”
That is an unusual thing for a sporting director to concede in public, because the official line all summer has been that the squad is finished. Pushed on whether a striker is coming, he said Barca have internal solutions, then added in the same breath that they still need to look. Those two answers do not sit together. A No 9 is the priority.
Rodri arrived by accident
The deal that reshaped Barca’s summer was never on the whiteboard back in June. “At first, he was not in our plans, but we saw that it was an opportunity. He will improve the team a lot.”
Then came the part Deco clearly wanted on the record. “We did not take him from Madrid,” he snapped. In Spain that sentence does work well beyond football, and the Madrid press has spent a fortnight treating the transfer as a scoreline rather than a squad decision.
Talk is cheap in the third week of August. Barca still have to fund whatever comes next, with a wage structure they have been patching up for four seasons.
