A consolation prize, though not much consolation

The London club announced the arrival of Dario Osorio overnight. The 22-year-old Chilean winger joins from FC Midtjylland on a season-long loan with an option to buy. Foot Mercato had reported a deal worth around 32 million euros between the two clubs.

Three years in the Superliga, and the numbers stack up
Osorio is no highlight-reel punt. Since arriving in Denmark in 2023, he has made 121 appearances in a Midtjylland shirt. The return: 25 goals and 18 assists, plus two domestic trophies lifted with the Herning club.
Work it out over the stretch and it is just over one direct goal contribution every three games. For a wide attacker who moved abroad at 19, that is steady progress, not smoke and mirrors. It is that kind of creative, battle-tested profile, with European experience already in the bank, that Palace went after.

The French coach now has another option out wide, in a dressing room that has been overhauled in a matter of hours. Osorio adds to a busy night in London, which also brought in Quinten Timber and Ben Chilwell.
The structure of the deal is worth a look. By going for a loan with an option rather than an outright transfer, Palace keeps the immediate financial hit down while still holding the cards on the player. It is a familiar Premier League move for talent arriving from the middle tier of European leagues, where the big question is always how quickly they can adapt.
Osorio has 12 months to make it stick. At Selhurst Park, that kind of window doesn’t stay open for long.
