Back from injury, Courtois hits the ground running
Thibaut Courtois is feeling better. The Belgium goalkeeper is heading into his ninth season with Real Madrid. He had been targeting a quick comeback after the injury he picked up in the last 16 of the World Cup against Spain. Job done.
The 34-year-old brought his return forward during pre-season. He first trained alone for three days to test his left leg. Then he rejoined the group. He says he is now “very good and happy”.

A reunion with Mourinho
The big talking point around his return has a name: Jose Mourinho. Courtois is back with the coach he knew at Chelsea. The pair won the Premier League together. The Belgian made no secret of his excitement in an interview with AS.
“Mourinho is a demanding coach who puts discipline and the team ahead of individual talent. For me, those are essential factors to win. He is direct, and I like that,” Courtois explained. He added that he still has “excellent memories” of their time together in London.
A platform to kick off the season
The message is clear. Courtois sees Mourinho as “the right path to follow” and hopes to “enjoy some great years” in Madrid under his command. For a goalkeeper who remains a pillar in the dressing room, that carries weight as the 2026-2027 campaign begins to take shape.
