Two three-run holes wiped out
Corbin Carroll flipped it all on its head. His two-run blast with one out in the ninth gave the Arizona Diamondbacks an 8-7 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday in Phoenix.
Arizona spent the night chasing the game. They trailed 3-0 after two innings, then 7-4 after seven. Two three-run deficits wiped out in the same game.
It was the Diamondbacks’ 45th comeback win of the season, the best mark in MLB, and their ninth walk-off.

The ninth-inning script
Gabriel Moreno started the inning with a walk against Pete Fairbanks. The Marlins pitcher left with an apparent injury after missing with his first pitch to Geraldo Perdomo.
Jack Ralston came in. Perdomo laid down a sacrifice bunt to move pinch-runner Tommy Troy to second. Then Carroll finished the job.
Before that, Jordan Lawlar pulled Arizona within 7-6 with a two-run homer off Tyler Zuber in the eighth. Lars Nootbaar had three hits, including a homer. Juan Morillo, meanwhile, struck out the side after issuing a leadoff walk in the ninth.
The wild card race is still alive
Arizona (80-71) are still two and a half games behind the San Diego Padres (82-68) for the final National League wild card spot. Eleven games left. The Diamondbacks had dropped three of their previous four before this one.
Corbin Burnes gave up five runs and five hits in four and two thirds innings, then was pulled after reaching his 75-pitch limit. It was his second outing since returning on September 8, after Tommy John surgery wiped out the second half of the 2025 season.
For Miami, Javier Sanoja and Jakob Marsee went back-to-back with home runs in the fourth and combined for five hits and four RBIs. Sanoja has reached base in 14 straight games, a career best, while hitting .407 over that stretch. Sandy Alcantara allowed four runs in five innings as Miami dropped its seventh straight start.
