A long night in Chicago
The game went down to the wire and then some. The Marlins and Cubs were locked together for 12 innings before Miami finally broke through, winning 8-2 and snapping a three-game skid. Chicago missed a chance to clinch a wild-card spot in front of its own fans.
Deadlocked after nine, the tension kept rising. Both teams traded blanks in the 10th, with the Cubs blowing a golden chance with the bases loaded and two outs, only for Javier Sanoja to make a game-saving diving stop on a grounder in a 3-2 count. Miami did not shake loose until the 12th.

Conine and Stowers finish the job
Griffin Conine kick-started the decisive inning with a sharp single down the left-field line, bringing home Esteury Ruiz. A sacrifice then moved Conine up, before Jakob Marsee drove him in with a shot back through the middle. Kyle Stowers also did plenty of damage: a sixth-inning homer, a double and a bases-loaded walk late on, good for two RBIs on the night.
For Chicago, the finish was brutal. One hit in 18 chances with runners in scoring position. Josh Ekness got the win, while Caleb Thielbar took the loss.
Crow-Armstrong keeps pushing toward 40-40
Even in defeat, Pete Crow-Armstrong kept his remarkable season rolling. The Cubs outfielder finished 2 for 4 and swiped his 39th bag of the year, edging a little closer to the rare 40-40 club. Miami moves to 77 wins and 80 losses, while Chicago sits at 87-70, still in a tight battle for a wild-card berth with the regular season entering its final stretch.
