Washington welcomes back a familiar face

The Commanders have a new old cornerback. Fabian Moreau is back in Washington. The 32-year-old put pen to paper, and the club kept the terms to itself.

None of this is unfamiliar ground for him. Washington spent a third-round pick on Moreau in 2017, and he gave the franchise his first four seasons before moving on.

He returns with plenty of football behind him. Eleven games in Minnesota last season, 17 tackles, two passes defended.

One veteran in, another calls it a career

The move arrived with a goodbye attached. Washington placed cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon on the retired list.

Witherspoon, 31, had inked a one-year deal with the Commanders back in March after three seasons with the Rams. He got into just six games in 2025 before hanging it up.

Moreau’s ledger explains the interest. 322 tackles. Seven interceptions. 124 career games across Washington, Atlanta, the Giants, Denver and Minnesota. A defensive backfield thin on experience just picked some up.
