Deal done today, delivery in 2027
Forty-eight million euros for a player Chelsea will not see for another 18 months. That was Tuesday’s business at Stamford Bridge. Honest Ahanor is a Blues player from now on, but he stays at Atalanta until 2027.
The 18-year-old Italian keeps developing in Bergamo in the meantime.
The club issued a statement shortly after. “Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Italy international Honest Ahanor, who is currently playing for Atalanta in Serie A. The defender will officially join the club in 2027,” the Blues said.

Thirty-five games at 18, and two caps already
Ahanor joined Atalanta in July 2025 from Genoa. Thirty-five matches since.
That is a heavy load for a teenager in a Serie A defence. Atalanta did not ease him in from the bench either, they threw him into the rotation from his first season in Bergamo and left him there.
Italy called him up in June. Two caps, his first.
A frantic end to the window at Stamford Bridge
The structure suits both clubs. Atalanta bank the fee and keep their defender for a full season. Chelsea see off the competition without touching their current squad.
The Blues did not hang about on Tuesday. Marc Guiu went to Leipzig in the morning for around 17 million euros. One out of the attack, one booked for the defence, with the clock running down.
