Montreal adds depth on the blue line
The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Maksymilian Szuber. The club announced a one-year, two-way deal yesterday for the 2026-27 season.
Szuber is 23. He spent last season with the Tucson Roadrunners in the American Hockey League, where he put up 11 goals and 27 points in 65 games.

A bet on depth
The two-way deal lets Montreal shuttle him between the NHL and the American League as needed. He will most likely open the season in the pipeline, one more option on a crowded back end.
For a young defenseman, that is the whole point. The door is ajar. Camp is where he pushes it open.
A roster still taking shape
Montreal keeps stacking bodies on the blue line ahead of the new campaign. Szuber lands in a young group. Depth, the club is betting, is what carries a team through a long winter.
