A tear in the warm-up
Jamal Musiala will not be back any time soon. The Bayern Munich attacking midfielder picked up a muscle injury on Thursday night during the warm-up before Germany’s Nations League clash with the Netherlands in Amsterdam. The Bavarian club confirmed the damage as a tear in the right thigh.
Musiala had been due to start. He never even made it onto the pitch. Instead, it is back to Munich to begin rehab, while Germany move on without him.

The bad luck keeps piling up
The 23-year-old has been carrying a heavy injury record for well over a year now. His 2025 season had already been wrecked by a serious knee injury picked up at the Club World Cup in a collision with Gianluigi Donnarumma. There were then a series of unexplained health issues, which had Bayern watchers worried far beyond the football side of things.
The result? Just four appearances this season for the Munich club. That is a pitiful return for a player once viewed as one of Europe’s brightest attacking talents before the injuries started coming in waves.
A hammer blow for Bayern and Germany
This latest absence could hardly have come at a worse time. Bayern Munich, flying along at a serious pace this season, will have to keep going without one of their most important creators. Germany, meanwhile, lose a likely starter at a time when they are trying to build a clear identity under their new staff. For Musiala, every setback makes the road back to real physical consistency that much harder.
