There were still a few boxes to tick. According to Foot Mercato, Brighton and Young Boys have reached a verbal agreement over the transfer of Jaouen Hadjam. The two clubs are now working through the final paperwork to get the left-back’s move over the line.

A step up for the Algeria international
Hadjam is under contract with Young Boys until 2028, so the Bern club were under no pressure to sell. If they are willing to let their left-back go, it is because Brighton’s offer carries real weight.
The Algeria international has built his reputation in Switzerland, season by season, with European football as his shop window. The Swiss league has long been a springboard to Europe’s top five leagues, and Hadjam could be next in line, at an age where the move still makes sense.
The Premier League is a different beast. Faster, heavier, stricter at the back on every single play. The jump is real.
Brighton sticking to the formula
The English club do not recruit on a whim. Their reputation has been built on spotting undervalued players in smaller leagues, buying them at sensible prices and selling them on for big money a few seasons later.
A young left-back developed at a high level in Switzerland, still on a long contract, fits that model to the letter.
What remains to be seen is whether the admin gets done in time. Deals that hinge on work permits and paperwork can drag right up to the final hour.
