Nobody touched him
Breece Hall had just hauled in a pass. Then he was down, and the New York Jets training staff was already jogging toward him. The running back walked off Monday’s session with a groin injury on a play where no defender laid a hand on him, which is the kind of thing that makes a coaching staff nervous even when the news turns out fine.
Aaron Glenn kept it light with reporters afterward. The Jets head coach said the early read does not suggest anything serious. Tests will settle it.
The calendar is unhelpful. New York plays its second preseason game Friday in Pittsburgh.

$45.75 million riding on a healthy groin
Hall turned 25 this year and is entering his fifth NFL season. The Jets extended him in May, three years, $45.75 million, real money at a position front offices spent the better part of a decade arguing was replaceable.
He earned it. Hall put up 1,065 rushing yards in 2025, a career high, and became the first Jets back to clear 1,000 since Chris Ivory in 2015. That drought ran a full decade.
Through four seasons the totals read 3,398 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, plus 188 catches for 1,642 yards and nine scores across 56 games and 50 starts. He hurts defenses two ways, and the Jets have built the offense knowing it.
Three and a half weeks
Drafted in the second round in 2022 out of Iowa State, Hall is still the centerpiece of a unit that does not have an obvious plan B. New York opens the regular season September 13 at Tennessee.
If Glenn’s read holds up, the opener is never in question. If it does not, the Jets have a problem they cannot solve on the waiver wire in three weeks.
