Mahle keeps rolling in Williamsport
Tyler Mahle pitched in Williamsport overnight like it was late September. For Atlanta, it may as well have been.
Mahle worked five innings, gave up one run on six hits, struck out four and walked two. The Braves beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 in the MLB Little League Classic. He is 5-10 on the season, a record that says nothing useful about how he has thrown since San Francisco traded him. Four starts in Atlanta, 1.52 ERA.
The win mattered more than the setting. Atlanta had lost five of its previous six games. Milwaukee had won six of its last seven and turned up in Pennsylvania looking like the better team.

Four runs, four different ways
Nothing about the Braves’ scoring was clean. Ozzie Albies and Lane Thomas singled in the second before Mauricio Dubon slashed a ground-rule double for the first run. Milwaukee answered in the third when Brice Turang singled and came home on Jake Bauers’ base hit.
Atlanta went back ahead in the fourth on an infield single. Drake Baldwin doubled, Thomas singled again, and Sean Murphy legged out a grounder with two outs. In the sixth, Michael Harris II hit a soft roller to first that Andrew Vaughn bobbled, and Dubon scored.
Shane Drohan took the loss for Milwaukee. Five innings, two runs, eight hits, five strikeouts, three walks. His bullpen then used two pitchers to get through the sixth and still gave up the run.
Iglesias closes a messy ninth
The Brewers kept coming. Dylan Lee gave up a double to Christian Yelich and a two-out triple to Luis Lara in the eighth, cutting the gap to 3-2. Raisel Iglesias came in and retired Gary Sanchez to leave Lara stranded at third.
Harris then homered in the top of the ninth, his 21st of the year, and it turned out to be necessary. Iglesias allowed a leadoff single to Jackson Chourio and walked Turang. William Contreras flew out to the warning track. Bauers grounded into a 1-6-3 double play. Save number 27 in 30 attempts.
Milwaukee also lost Garrett Mitchell, who took a pitch to the forearm in the fourth and left with a contusion. Lara replaced him and nearly tied the game four innings later.
