NFL: Brandon Graham retires after 16 seasons with the Eagles

No press release, no agent statement, just a microphone

Brandon Graham told a room full of people before he told anyone else. Tuesday, an Eagles event with Jefferson Health, and out it came.

“It’s official, I’m done. You’re hearing it from my mouth first,” the 38-year-old defensive end said.

Sixteen seasons, one uniform. That part almost never happens anymore. Graham played 228 games in an Eagles jersey counting the playoffs, more than any player in the franchise’s history, and he walks away third on the club’s all-time sack list with 79.5.

One strip sack, and a city never forgot it

Super Bowl LII. Fourth quarter. Tom Brady holding the football. Graham got there, knocked it loose, and Philadelphia had the first Lombardi Trophy in its history, 41-33 over New England.

He picked up a second ring at Super Bowl LIX, after the 2024 season. By then he had already retired once. He came back last November for nine games and three sacks. This one reads as final.

The Eagles took him 13th overall out of Michigan in 2010. He leaves with 495 tackles, 156 quarterback hits, 23 forced fumbles and seven recoveries across 215 regular-season games, 106 of them starts. Longevity, not fireworks.

He is not going far

“They’re in good hands. I’ll always be around, passing things on, helping the guys,” Graham said, talking about the adjustment ahead and about his kids.

Philadelphia now heads into a season having to rebuild a defensive line around a hole where its most loyal player used to be.
