Four more years in Chestnut Hill
Boston College have handed athletic director Blake James a contract extension running to 2031, ESPN reported earlier today.
James took the job in July 2022 after more than eleven years at Miami, the last nine of them as athletic director. Before Florida he ran the department at Maine from 2005 to 2010. He arrived at Boston College as the replacement for Pat Kraft, who had left for the same role at Penn State.

A heavy NCAA committee load
The extension keeps in place one of the more networked administrators in college sport. James is serving a four-year term on the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee. He sat on the NCAA Board of Directors between 2017 and 2019 and on the NCAA Football Oversight Committee from 2015 to 2017.
He has also chaired the NCAA Division I Council, the body that handles the day-to-day governance of Division I athletics. For a school whose football program has spent the past decade searching for traction, that kind of reach inside the national committee structure carries its own value.
The new deal ties him to Chestnut Hill for five seasons beyond this one.
