Fourteen minutes that settled it all
Real Betis left the Estadio de la Ceramica with three points on Monday night after a first half packed with goals. Villarreal fell 1-2 at home in a game that looked like it was theirs to lose.
Gerard Moreno put the hosts in front in the 29th minute, expertly set up by Renato Veiga. The lead barely lasted 10 minutes. Cucho Hernandez levelled, then Natan sent the Andalusians ahead just before the break in the 43rd minute.
Three goals in 14 minutes. That was the whole story. Betis took their chances, while Villarreal were left admiring the ball.

Possession means nothing without a punch
The second-half numbers told a familiar story. Villarreal kept pushing, controlled 62% of the ball and fired off 14 shots. But the Betis back line never buckled.
It is the sort of stat that keeps pundits busy year after year in La Liga. Hoarding possession gets you nowhere if the other side sits deep and finishes its chances. Villarreal learned that the hard way, with the ball at their feet and the scoreboard frozen after the 43rd minute.
For Betis, the lesson was the opposite. Less of the ball, fewer shots, but two goals in a brief burst and a defence that held firm for 45 minutes under pressure.
Now comes the awkward part
Winning away at Villarreal is no small thing, and it says plenty about how Betis have started the campaign. They spent a full half doing the chasing and still walked off with everything.
The harder question is what happens against sides happy to hand them the ball, because that is a different game entirely. It will come around soon enough. Nobody is getting much of a breather from this schedule.
