He never nailed down regular minutes at Nantes.
Yassine Benhattab is leaving La Beaujoire, and Montpellier are the next stop. MHSC confirmed the signing of the 23-year-old winger on Thursday afternoon on a deal running to 2029.
Nantes had tried to make it work. They wanted to bring him through in Ligue 1 last season and it did not take, which is how he ended up spending the last six months on loan at Stade de Reims in Ligue 2. Back to square one, almost.

Aubagne, where anyone first noticed him
Go back two years to find the version of Benhattab that got people interested. He was on loan at Aubagne in National, now Ligue 3, right down at the bottom of the French pyramid. That is where most scouts first wrote his name down.
His career since has moved like a lift stuck between floors. Too good for National. Never quite established for Ligue 1.
Montpellier are offering the thing he has been short of. A role. Minutes. A team going somewhere.
MHSC have their sights on promotion
Zoumana Camara’s side sit third in Ligue 2, two wins and two draws in, still unbeaten. The club from the south of France is very much in the hunt for a return to the top flight.
A three-year contract at a winning side is not nothing for a 23-year-old who has spent his career being lent out. This is the first time he arrives somewhere as a signing rather than a temporary body.
Nantes, for their part, have had a busy summer. Mostafa Mohamed moved to Turkey earlier this month and replacements have come in elsewhere. Benhattab simply was not in the plans any more.
