Three months without a defeat
St. Louis City SC have not lost a match since the middle of May. Nine games unbeaten now, seven of them won.
Simon Becher scored twice on Saturday night as they took San Jose apart 3-1 at Earthquakes Stadium. Daniel Edelman got the other. On 29 points, St. Louis sit fifth in the Western Conference.
At the end of April they were near the foot of the table. Same squad, different season.

They sold Hartel and then scored three
Marcel Hartel left for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga. St. Louis responded by taking almost every chance they made.
Eighth minute, Edelman drifted off his marker and Conrad Wallem picked him out from close range. Angus Gunn had nothing to work with.
Twenty-seventh, Eduard Lowen hung a corner up into the middle and Becher headed it down and in.
The third was the pick of them. A long diagonal found Tomas Totland out on the left, his cross came in flat and Becher hit it first time with his right.
Thirteen shots to seven, seven on target to two. Gunn made four saves. Roman Burki made one.
Twenty-one goals conceded in nine games
Beau Leroux got San Jose’s goal two minutes after the break, seizing on a cleared free kick just outside the area and drilling a bouncing shot inside Burki’s near post.
It changed nothing about the pattern. The Earthquakes have shipped 21 goals in their last nine matches, a run that reads one win, five defeats, three draws.
The back line does not hold together and has not for a while.
San Jose drop to fourth in the West on 33 points. Still above St. Louis, but only by four, and heading the wrong way.
