A reversal in July’s not-guilty stance
Malik Beasley is expected to plead guilty in the NBA betting-fraud case, according to reports from ESPN and The Athletic. The former Milwaukee and Detroit guard was indicted at the end of June, and in July he said he would fight the charges. He has since contacted federal prosecutors about a plea agreement.
Investigators allege that Beasley deliberately under-performed or over-performed on certain statistics, rebounds among them, in four games of the 2023-24 season with the Bucks. The dates were reportedly chosen with accomplices, who then bet on those numbers. He is also said to have built up several million dollars in sports-betting debts, which the case claims he tried to clear through the scheme.

Six defendants, two not guilty pleas
Four of the six people charged are expected to plead guilty, Beasley among them. Former NBA forward Ed Davis and his agent, Paolo Zamorano, have both pleaded not guilty, so the case is still heading toward a trial that will draw attention well beyond basketball.
Beasley earned about $59 million in salary over nine NBA seasons and shot 39.1% from three-point range for his career. His contract ran out after a productive 2024-25 season in Detroit, and he has not appeared in an NBA game since the case surfaced in the summer of 2025. None of the guilty pleas has been entered in court yet, so the details of any deal remain unconfirmed.
