Boxing: Baumgardner says Dubois is there for the picking

A step up before the Dubois talk

Alycia Baumgardner has not yet fought at lightweight, but she is already discussing the woman who holds two of its belts. The unified super-featherweight champion told Sky Sports she would pick Caroline Dubois apart if the two meet in 2027.

First comes the job in Texas. Baumgardner challenges unbeaten IBF lightweight champion Elif Nur Turhan on Sunday night, which is Monday morning in the UK. The card starts at 1.30am on Sky Sports. Baumgardner is 18-1 with wins over Mikaela Mayer and, most recently, Bo Mi Re Shin. She calls Nur Turhan a one-way fighter and expects her to struggle from the opening bell.

Respect for the power, not the opponent

Nur Turhan won the title with a fifth-round knockout of Beatriz Ferreira in December 2025, after flooring the Brazilian in round one. Baumgardner gave her credit for that result and agreed she punches hard, though she said she has not felt it herself. She pointed out that her opponent has not faced anyone like her, and that three-minute rounds suit her.

The 32-year-old also sees herself as the leading name in women’s boxing since Katie Taylor retired. She said nobody needed to hand her that position because she took it.

Dubois waits in the wings

Dubois, the unbeaten WBC and WBO lightweight champion, wants a big fight with Baumgardner next year. The two traded words after Dubois beat Amelia Moore in Birmingham in August, and Dubois called her a coward. Baumgardner says the fight is there but that Dubois still has her own work to do first. She added that she sees holes in Dubois’ game.
