Camp starts, contract still on ice
On Wednesday, the Buccaneers report back for training camp. Still no new deal for their quarterback. According to ESPN, Baker Mayfield and Tampa Bay are nowhere near an agreement.
Mayfield is heading into the final year of his contract. Three years, $100 million, signed in March 2024. His annual salary of $33.33 million ranks only 16th among quarterbacks. Not exactly top-tier money.
And he doesn’t seem bothered. ESPN says he’s not worried about playing this season as things stand, or being tagged in 2027.
Try it for $0.99.
A bet that paid off, then hit the brakes
Cast your mind back to 2023. Mayfield arrived on a one-year, $4 million deal, brought in to help wipe away the Tom Brady era. He delivered. Two straight Pro Bowls, two division titles.
Then it all stalled. An 8-9 record last season, and no playoffs. Across eight seasons and four franchises, he has completed 63.5% of his passes for 28,525 yards, 197 touchdowns and 101 interceptions. The arm is there. The price is the sticking point.
