Colorado pulls away in the second
Calgary is still waiting for its first point. The Flames lost 7-3 to Colorado at the Saddledome on Thursday night and sit at 0-4-0, the only NHL team without a point this season.
The game was tied 1-1 after one period, with Devon Toews scoring for Colorado and Adam Klapka answering for Calgary. Then the Avalanche took over. They scored three times in under five minutes in the second period, with Toews adding his second, Cale Makar scoring and Nathan MacKinnon finishing the run.
Makar finished with two goals and an assist. MacKinnon had a goal and two assists, and Jaden Schwartz and Toews each scored twice. Colorado improved to 3-1-0.

Wedgewood makes his mark
Scott Wedgewood made his season debut in goal and won in his 200th career NHL game. He stopped 26 of 29 shots. At the other end, Devin Cooley made 23 saves on 30 shots and allowed seven goals.
Shots were nearly even, 30-29 for Colorado, and neither team scored on the power play. Colorado won the faceoff count 41-29 as well.
A rough start for Calgary
Klapka, Mikael Backlund and Kevin Bahl scored for the Flames, who opened the season with a 6-1 loss to Seattle and have not recovered a point since.
