A 20th double-double, and another milestone gone
Shakira Austin poured in 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in Washington’s 79-69 win over Connecticut. It was her 20th double-double of the season, a total that puts her among the league’s steadiest frontcourt players this year.
The win was Washington’s eighth in 10 games and keeps the Mystics in sixth place at 27 wins and 16 losses. That was hardly a given at the start of the season, and it owes plenty to Austin’s steady rise inside.

The game turned after the break
Washington led 23-16 after the first quarter, before Connecticut clawed back to 44-42 by half-time. The third quarter made all the difference: a 15-4 run gave the Mystics a 12-point lead, and they never really looked back.
Sonia Citron added 12 points, while Cotie McMahon chipped in 13 off the bench, shooting 5 for 8. That touch helped make up for a lost battle on the boards, with the Sun edging that category 43-34, including 13 offensive rebounds.
Turnovers told the real story
Connecticut paid dearly for its 17 turnovers, which Washington turned into 28 points. Diamond Miller still did her job with 19 points and 6 rebounds, backed by Raegan Beers and Leila Lacan, who scored 11 apiece. But with this latest loss, the Sun drops to 10 wins and 33 losses, a season already drifting far from any springtime hope.
