Six runs down, and it wasn’t enough
Nine to seven. Written down like that, it looks like a laugher. It wasn’t. The Oakland Athletics trailed by six runs at one point before ripping off a comeback that buried the Los Angeles Angels 9-7.
Carlos Cortes put the exclamation point on it. His two-run homer off Sam Bachman in the eighth inning gave Oakland a lead it never gave back. He’d already delivered a pinch-hit RBI triple the inning before. Zack Gelof piled on with a two-run shot of his own in that same eighth.

Trout had three hits. It didn’t matter.
Shea Langeliers and Lawrence Butler each chipped in three hits and an RBI for the A’s. Los Angeles got plenty too: Denzer Guzman went deep and drove in four, Vaughn Grissom collected three hits and two RBIs, and Mike Trout finished with three hits and two runs scored. None of it held up.
The Angels have now dropped four of their last six. Luis Medina worked a scoreless eighth to pick up the win, and Hogan Harris slammed the door for his 16th save. Yusei Kikuchi took the ball for Los Angeles and lasted five and a third innings, charged with two runs on seven hits, two strikeouts and a walk. Oakland climbs to 62-95. The Angels sink to 60-97, edging toward triple-digit losses.
