Contact made with Club Brugge
Ten days left in the window and a hole at the heart of the defence. Aston Villa have made contact with Club Brugge over Joel Ordonez, according to Sky Sports. The 22-year-old Ecuadorian is on a shortlist, nothing more than that yet.
Talks are at an early stage and no deal is close. Ordonez is tied to the Belgian club until 2029, which leaves Brugge holding every card.
Try it for $0.99.
The Konsa money has to be spent
Villa sold Ezri Konsa to Arsenal for around 64 million euros. That is the gap they are now trying to fill.
Their first move was Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The bid of roughly 21 million sent to Southampton was waved away as too low, and the pursuit fizzled almost as quickly as it started.
Ordonez has become the serious alternative.
A name that still rings bells in Marseille
Last summer he was OM’s number one target for the same role. A move to the Canebiere looked close at one point.
The player wanted it. Brugge’s financial demands killed it, and Marseille went elsewhere.
A year on, the Belgian club still have their defender, and now a Premier League side is knocking. Nothing suggests the asking price has come down.
