June 2027 was the date on the old contract. Arsenal have decided not to get anywhere near it. Mikel Arteta and the club have agreed terms on an extension, according to the BBC, with no official word out of the Emirates yet.
Letting a final year run down invites questions nobody at the club wants to answer, so the board moved early. The 10 million pounds a year Arteta currently earns is going up as part of the deal.
He is 44. He has had the job since 2019, which now makes him one of the longest-serving managers in the division.

The trophy he spent six years chasing
Last spring settled the argument. Arteta won the English league title, the one thing missing from his record and the measure every season since his arrival had been held against.
Before that, the near-misses piled up. Second place, then second again, then a title race that got away in March. This renewal rewards a result rather than a promise, which is not how these decisions usually go in the Premier League.
Europe is the gap now. Arsenal have never won the Champions League, and Arteta has made no secret of wanting it.
Signed days after a beating on the south coast
Check the calendar. Arsenal lost at Brighton on 19 September, their first defeat of the season, and Arteta went at his players in public straight afterwards.
The hierarchy did not wait for the mood to settle. It went the other way and accelerated.
