Two-year deal in Haute-Savoie
FC Annecy confirmed on Saturday the signing of David Oduro. The 20-year-old Ghanaian left-back has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Ligue 2 club.
“FC Annecy are delighted to announce the signing of 20-year-old full-back David Oduro, who joins from FC Barcelona. Welcome to Haute-Savoie,” the club said in a statement.
The timing is no accident. Oduro had entered the final year of his deal at Barca, a situation that drags down the value of a player developed elsewhere and never handed a senior debut.

Accra, La Masia, then Ligue 2
His route has been an interesting one. Oduro moved to Catalonia in 2024 from Accra Lions, a Ghanaian club that has become a regular supplier to the European market in recent years.
His record for the Blaugrana was limited to the B team: 23 matches last season, one goal and one assist. He never got a single first-team appearance. Barcelona spent a long time looking for a long-term answer at left-back, yet never gave him a proper chance.
For Annecy, who finished seventh in Ligue 2 last season, this is exactly the kind of low-risk punt that can pay off if the player handles the physical side of the French game.
A Haute-Savoie club aiming higher
FCA are not stopping there. Le Dauphine Libere reported on Friday that Luke Mbete, the 22-year-old Manchester City defender, was on trial at the club to cover for the injury to Francois Lajugie.
Two players out of elite academies for a club that was still in National only a few seasons ago. Annecy’s hierarchy has clearly decided to shop a level above its usual lane.
