Meckler ends it on the first pitch
Wade Meckler didn’t mess around. Bottom of the 10th, first pitch from Kody Funderburk, and the Angels hitter smokes a liner through a crowded infield and into right field. Zach Neto scores. Los Angeles grabs a 5-4 win over the Twins in Anaheim on the opening night of a four-game set.
It’s the first walk-off hit of Meckler’s career. Funderburk’s outing lasted exactly one pitch.
One batter earlier, Mike Trout had tied it with an RBI single off Yoendrys Gomez. The Twins reliever is tagged with two runs, one earned, in a third of an inning.

The Angels still managed to throw it away first
It looked done and dusted in the first inning. Four hits, three runs, RBI singles from Moises Ballesteros, Denzer Guzman and Oswald Peraza. Los Angeles was up 3-0 after half an inning.
Behind that, rookie Walbert Urena blanked Minnesota for seven. Four hits allowed, no walks, nine strikeouts, a career high. It still wasn’t enough.
Minnesota got one back in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Brooks Lee, then tied it with two outs in the ninth. Walker Jenkins launched a Ben Joyce fastball 394 feet, just over the glove of center fielder Jose Siri. A two-run homer that snapped a 1-for-34 skid for the young outfielder.
What it means in the standings
In the 10th, the Twins even moved in front. Luke Keaschall led off with a single, worked his way round to third, and Lee brought him home. Minnesota then loaded the bases, but Blake Weiman fanned Royce Lewis to kill the threat. The reliever picked up his first major league win.
Peraza and Meckler finished with two hits and an RBI apiece. The Angels (59-94) have now won three of their last four. Minnesota (71-82) has dropped four of five and wasted a seven-inning, three-run, nine-strikeout outing from Taj Bradley.
Three games remain in the series in California.
