Twenty-six boards, and Holdsclaw’s name comes off the top line
Chamique Holdsclaw had owned this one since 2003. Twenty-four rebounds in a single game, untouched for 23 years. Angel Reese took it Monday night in Los Angeles with 26, the most anyone has pulled down in a WNBA game.
Atlanta won 78-71 on the road. Reese chipped in 11 points on top of the glass work, her 27th double-double of a season that keeps producing them.
The night gave her a second record too. Rebound number 452 moved her past A’ja Wilson, whose single-season mark had lasted all of two years. Reese ended the game on 458 and the regular season is not finished.

Four straight out West, and third place is half a game away
The Dream came home from the coast having won every game they played there. Atlanta sits at 25-13 with six left, close enough to third that a single result flips it.
Allisha Gray put up 20. Rhyne Howard had 18, Naz Hillmon 12. None of that came easily: Atlanta shot 40 percent from the field, a long way off the 124-point franchise record it hung on this same opponent last week.
It was tight for three quarters. Los Angeles went up six, then led 37-36 at the half. Gray scored nine in the third to swing it, and a Jordin Canada layup with 9:05 to play pushed the gap to 11 at 66-55. That was the game.
Nneka Ogwumike’s best night of the year buys the Sparks nothing
Ogwumike went for 27 points and 16 rebounds, her highest scoring total of the season. Cameron Brink came off the bench for 15 points and five blocks. Dearica Hamby also finished on 15. Rae Burrell, third on the team in scoring, missed the game after falling ill.
Seven losses in eight games now for Los Angeles, who drop to 13-25. Their playoff hopes died last Thursday, against Atlanta again. The Dream lead the season series 3-0 and have one more crack at a sweep.
