Ligue 1: Nice land Alidu Seidu on loan as injuries bite

Agreement reached between Rennes and Nice

According to Le Parisien, OGC Nice and Stade Rennais have agreed a loan move for Alidu Seidu. Straight loan, no option to buy, and the Ghanaian defender was expected on the Cote d’Azur on Thursday. Neither club has confirmed anything officially.

The 26-year-old is under contract at Rennes until 2029 and had dropped out of the club’s plans. He still made Franck Haise’s expanded squad for Wednesday’s trip to Sturm Graz in the Europa League, a game that finished 0-0.

Nice are paying for their treatment room

Le Gym have been hunting defensive cover for days. Moise Bombito and Antoine Mendy are both out long term, Mendy with a cruciate ligament injury. The back line is stretched thin and the fixture list is showing no mercy.

Seidu fits a very specific need. Right-back, or the middle of a back three. That kind of versatility is worth plenty when one player has to patch two different holes.

106 Ligue 1 games already on the clock

The Ghanaian is not landing in unfamiliar territory. He has 106 Ligue 1 appearances behind him, first at Clermont, then at Rennes. He knows the tempo, the travel, the opponents. Nice will not need to spend weeks bringing him up to speed.

For Rennes the logic runs the other way. One salary off the books, a player getting minutes somewhere, and a market value that does not drain away over a season in the stands. The straight loan keeps the future open: Seidu returns to Brittany next summer, unless the two clubs work something else out before then.
