Saudi Pro League: Al-Ittihad table €30m for Anis Hadj Moussa

A Saudi bid lands on the table in Rotterdam

Thirty million euros. That is what Al-Ittihad have put in front of Feyenoord for Anis Hadj Moussa, according to Foot Mercato, which broke the story on Wednesday night. The Dutch club has yet to answer.

The timing is no accident. Feyenoord have just bought back their stadium and need money coming in. Selling a 24-year-old winger at that price would repair a good chunk of the balance sheet in one go.

The Saudi league is still open for business, too. Its clubs keep recruiting while the major European markets shut on Monday night, and Al-Ittihad are using that later window to chase a player who probably would not have been reachable ten days ago.

Forty games, 14 goals, and every scout in Europe watching

Hadj Moussa is coming off a big season. Forty matches, 14 goals, seven assists. Those numbers explain why his name has been doing the rounds all summer, with Lille, Marseille and Sporting Portugal all sniffing around to varying degrees. None of them went all the way.

The Algeria international also played at the World Cup with the Fennecs. That stage widened his market well past the Eredivisie. At 24, he has hit the age where a winger of his profile costs real money.

Staying in Rotterdam would make sense for his development. Saudi Arabia changes the shape of a career, though: far more money, considerably less football.

Feyenoord hold the cards, and the clock

Thirty million is serious for a player they bought cheaply. But selling now means losing their most decisive attacker three games into the season, with almost no room left to replace him.

No official response so far. The file stays open.
