Nine years at Barcelona, four senior games, one plane ticket
Ajax Amsterdam confirmed the arrival of Jofre Torrents late on Monday night. The 19-year-old Spanish left-back comes in from Barcelona on a four-year deal.
No fee changes hands now. The whole thing is built on performance-related add-ons, and De Telegraaf puts the ceiling at a shade under 6 million euros. Spanish outlets add that Barcelona have held on to 50% of any future resale, whatever happens next.
Torrents is Ajax’s seventh signing of the window. He was presented on Monday evening at De Toekomst, on the margins of Jong Ajax against FC Emmen.

An academy career that never quite broke through
He arrived at Barcelona in 2017 and spent almost a decade climbing the Catalan club’s youth ladder. The return: four official appearances with the first team.
His biggest night came with a group rather than on his own. Torrents was part of the Barcelona under-19 side that lifted the 2025 Youth League, the ceiling for academy football in Europe.
Barcelona sent him off with a note. “FC Barcelona would like to thank Jofre Torrents for his commitment, professionalism and dedication throughout all these years at the club,” they wrote, wishing him well for what comes next.
Technical director Jordi Cruijff put the Dutch case. “Jofre is a very talented player who has made great progress in recent years,” he told club media. “Several clubs were interested, but he chose, fully aware of what he was doing, to join our project and our vision.”
A left flank with room in it
In Amsterdam he walks into a fight with Caio Henrique and Owen Wijndal. Wijndal has been cleared to leave, which in practice turns the left side into a two-man rotation.
Ajax’s reasoning is not hard to read. Nothing spent up front, bonuses that only bite if the player actually makes it, and a Spain Under-20 international to work on for four seasons. Barcelona carry the risk here, losing one of their own without a cent coming back through the door today.
